Niacinamide also known as Nicotinic Acid is a B vitamin, specifically Vitamin B3. Topical use of niacinamide has shown to reduce redness and irritation. Niacinamide has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that complement the cell communicating role.

These properties make Niacinamide an excellent conditioning agent that reduces the harshness of the additional active ingredients contained within the formula.

1. High-quality face wash should be dye-free and fragrance-free and chemically exfoliates to remove dead skin and keep pores open. Our most aggressive exfoliator has 20% Glycolic Acid (which should be stopped 5 days before procedures). Our less intense – but still exfoliating – option from Merz contains 10% Glycolic Acid. Our gentlest face wash is made with rosehips, which was the original anti-aging ingredient, before retinols were discovered to be effective. Some folks have sensitive skin and cannot use an exfoliative preparation twice a day, so having more intense washes and less intense washes, to use in alternating fashion, may be helpful.

2. Sunblock. No matter what your skin tone is, you need to wear sunblock with SPF 25 or higher every day – whether it’s cloudy or sunny, spent indoors or outdoors. UV rays cause damage, which leads to wrinkles, sagging, age spots, and cancers. We have multiple non-comedogenic options - tinted or non-tinted (colorless) - that are moisturizing and will serve both purposes each day. To add additional benefits for tightening and moisturizing, our products contain anti-oxidants. SKNV is more emollient, NeoCutis, more sheer. Please note that tinted sunscreens contain zinc to block visible light and are therefore the most effective way to protect your skin.

3. Vitamins.

We offer Vitamin A in over-the-counter retinol or prescription-only level tretinoin (which is approximately 20-40 times stronger than retinol) to increase cell turnover - to erase the effects of aging, reduce pimples and blackheads, and treat acne. Which formulation you use depends on your skin’s condition, your goals, and how sensitive your skin is. Some patients use maximum strength every day, others use stronger formulations a couple of times per week and weaker ones the other days. Our prescription options include red wine and green tea extracts, to decrease side effects, increase the frequency of use, and maximize the benefits.

Our Vitamin C offerings include non-oily 20% water-soluble ascorbic acid, which can be quite challenging to get ahold of as a consumer! We call ours Mega Vitamins because they simultaneously deliver Vitamins B & E. This is an excellent non-prescription option for healing existing damage to improve pigmentation and texture/wrinkles, but it can be drying, so it will require an emollient moisturizer, like our sunblocks or One For All Cream. Our lipid-soluble version is combined with sunblock in NeoCutis Reactive+.

Vitamin B (niacinamide) decreases inflammation and sebum production (blackheads). Vitamins A & C usually cause redness and dryness/flaking, especially initially (2-4 weeks), so to complement other treatments, it is included in many of our products. 

4. Moisturizers are especially important when using a proper regimen because ingredients 1-3 (above) all tend to dry and irritate the skin. Our sunblocks are an excellent choice for moisturizing each morning. One For All moisturizer at night covers most peoples' needs. Our 100% Hyaluronic Acid Gel penetrates deeply and provides a barrier to decrease evaporation, yet its unique formulation leaves NO residue (even on oily skin), so it will not interfere with anything else (including makeup).
